Houston rookie D'Onta Foreman fumbled two plays later to give Kansas City the ball right back and the Chiefs tacked on a field goal.

It will be forgotten in an instant if the Texans can't follow up with a win over Kansas City.

The loss of Mercilus is the latest setback to Houston's linebackers after veteran middle linebacker Brian Cushing was suspended for 10 games on September 13 for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. The Texans moved their record to 2-2 with the win.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) celebrates after DeAndre Hopkins' touchdown during the first quarter of an NFL football game at NRG Stadium, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, in Houston. S Andre Hal had two interceptions last week for his second career multi-interception game. Watson's 4th and 1, must-convert touchdown - a 9-yard drag route toward the Texans sideline - flipped the proverbial script.

After a record-breaking performance by rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson in the Texans 57-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans last Sunday, the Houston Texans can officially say they don't have a problem. This week, in his fourth start, he faces the league's lone unbeaten team.

In truth, it was likely unrealistic to expect the Houston Texans to be a match for the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. This is a pick-your-poison type of team.

No one has turned the ball over since Hunt's very first carry in week one and contributions from role players like Albert Wilson, Charcandrick West and the now-injured Chris Conley have been extremely valuable.

Prior to the start of the 2014 season, the Texans and Watt agreed to a six-year contract extension, worth $100 million.

Kirk Cousins and Washington were able to find success against the Chiefs' defense last week, and they missed their opportunity to pull off the upset. The team's run defense has been solid so far this season, however, with veteran Derrick Johnson as the anchor at linebacker.

Two minutes into the third quarter, Kansas City had outpaced Houston in first downs 20 to 8. Ultimately, they chose to go with Patrick Mahomes, and Watson was taken by the Texans two selections later.

Watson isn't the only one making sure that victims get the help they need.

They have 12 games left this season, a long way to go if they want to make a jump this year.

Fuller didn't waste any time getting his feet wet last week. He skied above the Chiefs secondary in the middle of the end zone and high-pointed a 34-yard touchdown to make the final score look more respectable. "A couple of the most disruptive guys in football up there", Smith said. That's pretty impressive for a rookie who's still supposed to be adjusting to the league.
