Air Canada said on its website that flights between Toronto and Miami, Toronto and Fort Lauderdale and Montreal and Fort Lauderdale were cancelled Friday through Monday, and added late on Friday that it is monitoring the situation at other Florida airports such as Orlando and Fort Myers.

The coming week could get off to a rough start for air travelers scheduled to fly through the world's busiest airport.

The decision to close Orlando International was made Friday, after meetings with the airport's airline carriers.

Some flights to and from Florida cities will resume Tuesday, Jetblue noted, saying it would "work up to our full schedule" by the end of the week. An addition 275 canceled flights involved an airport in SC or Georgia. It's also operating humanitarian flights like the one planned to lift 150 American citizens out of hard-hit St. Maarten Monday.

On top of additional flights, several airlines announced they were waiving fees or setting price caps on flights in and out of areas affected by the storm.

7,400 of the canceled flights were departing from or arriving to Florida airports.

U.S. airlines have been mounting airlifts to clear passengers from Florida. It is expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, city of Albany officials said this evening.

Nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was also set to remain closed on Monday, saying it was "still assessing damages and making necessary repairs". Sheltair, which operates 11 FBOs throughout the state reported no major damage at any of them, aside from roof leaks and water incursion in some of its hangars. Officials at the airport say they will have an update tomorrow. "The terminals with most damage are J, H, G, F and E", MIA Airport spokesman Greg Chin said.

Atlanta-based Delta said the expected north-south winds of 40 miles per hour or greater will run perpendicular to the five parallel runways at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which can potentially threaten the safety of landings.

"At this point, we have pre-staged as many people and commodities as we are able to", she said. The cancellations now extend through Monday, though they will likely persist well into next week. "I had to live with our daughter for a year before we could get back into our house", he said.
