Overview: With the 2017 Gold Cup serving as an audition for many on the U.S. Men's National Team Roster ahead of next year's World Cup in Russian Federation, the stock of some players rose with others took a step back.

The USA's roster features guys like Kellyn Acosta, Matt Miazga and Jordan Morris, who were too young to become first team fixtures. "It's frustrating. It's disappointing".

After a scoreless first half, the US got an early goal from Dom Dwyer, but Panama battled back and got an equalizer to split the points.

Dwyer secured his USA citizenship in March.

After Dwyer notched his second goal in as many senior worldwide appearances, it's as if the entire United States back line thought their work was done.

"I love playing with great players, and this is definitely a higher level than club football", Dwyer said. The head coach said the incoming Atlanta United 'keeper played "very well", while the New England Revolution's Kelyn Rowe offered more effusive praise.

Panama put on immediate pressure and scored after Rowe was beating down the flank and Edgar Barcena crossed to Gabriel Torres.

Bedoya made his 62nd global appearance, most among players on the U.S. Gold Cup roster, and captained the Americans for the first time.

Coach Bruce Arena will lead his team into the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins Friday.

Given the lack of true playmaker options on the US roster, Corona's struggles against Panama certainly raise the question of whether Bruce Arena will have no choice but to call in a Darlington Nagbe or Clint Dempsey for the knockout rounds to give the attack some creativity.

As the US gets set to take on Panama on Saturday (4:30 p.m.; FOX) in Nashville, Tenn., Arena has made it clear he wants to win the tournament. On Saturday, he showed his age, struggling to deal with Panama's midfielders, and turning the ball over repeatedly.

Next up for the a Wednesday match against Martinique in Tampa, Florida.

The second games for Group A will be played at Houston's BBVA Compass Stadium.

If Mexico plays fewer than six games at the Gold Cup, Osorio's suspension will carry over to its next internationals.

Canada, the 2000 Gold Cup champion, made it 3-0 through Davies, who finished neatly after being played through by Cavallini in the 60th minute. Historically, they were huge triumphs for Los Canaleros, whose opening-day domination - and Mexico's indifferent form most of the tournament - appointed them consensus favorites in the final-four rematch. "I think that's a real positive for CONCACAF".

People tend to forget Straith is only 26, which he sees as an advantage.

Hernan Gomez's team, firmly on the front foot, found an equaliser after an excellent Guzan save dropped right to Camargo, who clipped home a shot from eight yards away.
