BYU students share what Father's Day means to them

But you have to really search to find a Father's Day brunch.

But Father's Day also feels bittersweet, because it is a reminder of the many children in our community who are living without the presence of a father in their lives. He realizes hugs and handshakes are good substitutes while they develop - because he knows the kisses will come back when they're old enough to have children of their own.

An active, involved father is not competition to the mother, he's help.

Now that Father's Day is here, I wonder how to honor the man who gave me so much when I was a child. In fact, we're now in an area where we can't even count the number of homeless cats that are multiplying as I write. Two of the homes we lived in were on golf courses.

"I take a great deal of pride in that renegade spirit that she clearly had", said Roddy, marketing director for a large Los Angeles company. I remember playing golf as a junior with just a five iron, seven iron, and a putter. It has everything to do with the time and attention spent with your children. At the age of twelve I began working as a caddie and washed golf clubs at the Cutten Club in Guelph.

Dad is a sports fanatic. And while the following is a far from comprehensive list of dad-enabled accessories, it should give you a couple of useful pointers where to start looking.

"We'll do it the right way". A concert, a hike, a baseball game, a trip to the movies.

You have to know, because buying the "easy chair dad" a fitness tracker is a huge waste of money. I am not sure if he got to see his favorite player, Jack Nicholas, win a tournament live, but I am sure he would have enjoyed it.

In this June 12, 2017, photo, Betsy Roddy of Los Angeles looks at a story in the August 17, 1910, edition of The River Press of Fort Benton, Mont., describing how her great-grandmother, Sonora Smart Dodd, organized the first Father's Day earlier that year in Spokane, Wash. From the food on the table to a good education, he makes his children see the value in everything they have and he doesn't let his kids treat him like an ATM. Teachers would call my mum when I was sick and I would remind them, again, to call my Dad. What they had to say left us ... well, kind of emotional, to say the least.

"Showing them that you still have mutual respect for each other's roles in their lives will make the process easier on them".

No father is ideal.

The first letter of John to the early churches describes us as "children of God", and as such, we are to love one another. Good fathers are the result of good fathering. God watches out for us 24/7 because He never slumbers nor sleeps.

We all have broken places in our lives-Dad didn't talk much about his losses, but he sure tried to make up for them.

I would be lying if I said I know how hard it must be to raise a soul by yourself. We guys tend to acquire things we want apart from a holiday, and our vision for this holiday might be relaxation and freedom from obligation. God is not bound by time so He sees our future and can't wait to walk with us in it. God will be with us every step of the way. Still, we fellas do enjoy our share of attention! If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. He wants to spend time with you. Trust us, it's way better than those glow-in-the-dark cuff links you might be thinking about buying.
