76ers get No. 1 pick from Celtics, chance to draft Fultz

Colangelo orchestrated a blockbuster trade that became finalized on Monday.

It looks like Philadelphia is prepared to take Washington guard Markelle Fultz at No. 1 in Thursday's draft. Dwight Howard was dealt and D'Angelo Russell - who just two years ago was on the same stage the players will walk Thursday as the No. 2 pick - was dealt by the Los Angeles Lakers, presumably to clear the point guard spot for Ball and salary cap space for the future. The Celtics only get the Lakers pick if it falls between No. 2 and No. 5. If not, Philadelphia will send Boston either its own first-rounder in 2019 or Sacramento's first-rounder that year.

The Celtics could be gearing up for more moves.

Following the picks swap with the Philadelphia 76ers, the 19-year-old was open to work out with the team, but it just didn't work out logistically, per Fischer.

"We haven't taken a step outside the draft", Colangelo said. "We are using house money here". "What happens in '18 and '19, there's so many things that can happen between now and then I would rather try to get this taken care of now". The teams agreed to the deal over the weekend, hours after expected top pick Markelle Fultz worked out for the Sixers. It's no secret that the love affair the team has with him is mutual. He wrote "Be Ready ..." "I think our games could help each other out a lot". "He's super explosive. He's super talented". I had no say in that. "Jayson Tatum, just because he's so versatile and I think his game will translate better in the National Basketball Association than it did in college; and he was already great in college". While at Washington, Fultz averaged nearly 23 points per game, shot 48% from the field and 41% from 3pt range.

The Sixers need a shooter who can also play the point and Fultz fills that bill.

The most complete player in the draft, Fultz is also the best option to pair to Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. During the workout, Ball displayed his training schedules, further trying to ease the potential doubts of the franchise he obviously wants to play for after Lakers brass had some doubts about his conditioning after his first workout. "For the last four years, being one of the worst teams in the National Basketball Association and sticking our chest out like, 'We know better than you and everything's gonna be fine.' I've never seen a group of fans have so much resolve over such a bad period and come out smiling the whole time". They're getting the player they want.

The Boston Celtics turned down the offer of the #3 pick for All Star Jimmy Butler. That'll allow them to select the versatile Fultz.
