As the United States Attorney for the District of CT, I have the honor of working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement officers on a daily basis.

Suzanne Peterson, in her keynote speech, said Moore's death was a "poignant reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face every day".

Every year since 1982, members of the USA law enforcement community, their families and friends have gathered on Peace Officer's Memorial Day in Washington, mourn the fallen and remember their heroic acts. Some of the surviving family members accompanied the officers.

The officers will continue to be honored Saturday during the 10th Annual Valor Run at 9 Memorial Park, followed by the Memorial Ball at 6 the Marriott Hotel, 5580 Tech Center Drive.

Fallen DART Police Officer Brent Thompson was honored Thursday at a service as part of National Police Memorial Week. "We are blessed in McLennan County to have the type of law enforcement with the county and all our cities and surrounding cities, we've got tremendous people working", he said.

The event paid tribute to the 41 officers and deputies from Caddo and Bossier Parishes killed in the line of duty since 1872. Each year, there are approximately 60,000 assaults on law enforcement officers, resulting in almost 16,000 injuries.

"And these young men and women are the guardians of our civilization", Wynn says.

In a roll call, the officers were named, a candel lit, and a rose placed in their honor. "To the families of our fallen officers, you remain in our hearts year round".

This week, the House passed the Thin Blue Line Act.

CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney addressed officers at the ceremony and some families of slain officers in attendance. "Running the National Police Week 5K is just a small token to remember the sacrifices of officers that gave the ultimate price so that we may live in a safe and secure community". Please join me in continuing to pray for these individuals and the service to which they're committed on our behalf.
