Thomas scored 53 points Tuesday night in helping the Boston Celtics reach a 2-0 series lead over the Washington Wizards.

In addition, Isaiah is the only Celtics player in history to have a 50-point game in both the regular season and the playoffs in same season. Zaza Pachulia scored 10 points in 14 minutes. Terry Rozier had a career playoff high with 12 points. Paul had been fantastic in this series, but couldn't muster up the brilliant efforts he had in the first six games as he finished with 13 points on 6-of-19 shooting to go along with nine assists.

Washington took a 64-59 half-time lead after opening on a 16-0 run, blanking the Celtics over nearly four minutes at the start.

Thomas' floater at 2:48 put Boston up 118-117 and Bradley slammed home a thunderous breakaway dunk at 2:22 after he stripped Wall for the steal.

- The Celtics' postgame notes sure had a lot of Thomas' stats.

- Thomas scored only nine points in the second quarter - dude's gotta rest sometime - but he found other ways to contribute, pushing the pace and finding Horford for this alley-oop.

Horford added a driving hook and Thomas made a pull-up jumper to cap the win. Washington took a five point lead into the fourth quarter, but that's where Isaiah Thomas took over, scoring 20 points in the quarter to help Boston force overtime. "We just have to play Celtics basketball, and we'll be fine". Wizards had a chance to win but Bradley Beal missed an uncontested shot from 15 feet at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. Boston led by 15 by the end of the third.

Even though Boston had a great performance from beyond the arc, hitting 19 3-pointers is an aberration for this team.

Game 3 is on Friday at Washington.

The Boston Celtics spotted Washington the first 16 points of the game and then roared to a 123-111 home victory over the Wizards in the first game of the Eastern Conference semi-finals. Jones dunked with 18.7 seconds left in Game 1 and then was slapped with the technical for taunting Norman Powell, who earlier had delivered a shot to Kevin Love's groin.

The Celtics started Gerald Green, who'd seized a forward role in their previous series with the Chicago Bulls after Amir Johnson proved to be a major liability.

Thomas attended his sister Chyna's funeral Saturday after she died in a vehicle accident and has also had to overcome having had a tooth knocked out in a game-one victory Sunday. He wore a custom mouth guard Tuesday.

That pain persisted on the eve of Boston's second-round pairing with the Washington Wizards, when he flew cross-country to attend her funeral.
