It was not vintage Chelsea yesterday but they got the job done on a tense night in the Midlands.

Fabregas played the full 90 minutes of the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough and was absolutely excellent, registering two assists, which made it impossible for Conte to drop the Spaniard for this match at West Brom.

Conte was subsequently tasked with the aim of reviving Chelsea, which he has done with the title capture at the Hawthorns.

Chelsea clinched the title in Antonio Conte's first season as the club's manager.

But with eight minutes remaining, Chelsea finally struck as Azpilicueta broke into the West Brom box and crossed from the right for Batshuayi to force home from close range. It was his 18th substitute appearance in the league and he is yet to start for Chelsea in the top flight, but it mattered little as he celebrated at The Hawthorns.

The clearly delighted striker also took to Twitter to post a host of delighted messages. "Everyone thought he doesn't count too much and then he scores the winning goal for the championship", Fabregas said live on Sky Sports.

The goal was only his sixth in all competitions and just his second in the Premier League.

"That winning streak we went on was incredible, fundamental in our season". It is a great season but now we can win the FA Cup.

His moves in the transfer market, his tactical switches, and his late substitutions have all come off.

Conte has now won the league title in his last four seasons as a club manager, having lifted the Serie A trophy three years running with Juventus before leaving to manage Italy. I think that Michy paid me a lot with this change but it's great for me, this is my first season.

But he's taken it all in his stride.

"My players show me a great attitude to try to do something great this season", Conte said after the title triumph.

A tempestuous affair at bet365 Stadium was going Chelsea's way after Willian's free-kick eluded goalkeeper Lee Grant, but Gary Cahill conceded a penalty that allowed Jonathan Walters to equalise. Conte complained about the proximity of fixtures towards the end of the season, and next term will be all the more challenging, but he will benefit from the time spent in his first year sharing his methods. It encapsulated the game for Chelsea, only for Batshuayi to intervene following his 76th-minute introduction.

Fellow Italian Andrea Pirlo, meanwhile, wrote in his 2014 autobiography: "When Conte speaks, his words assault you".

Any travelling Chelsea fans expecting a procession towards the title were given a reality check inside the opening 30 seconds when Thibaut Courtois was forced into an early save, tipping Salomon Rondon's header over the crossbar.

"Once you get a disjointed club it's hard to join it back together again", Hollins said.
