Celtics hold pole position for NBA draft lottery

After months of mock drafting based on NBA lottery odds, the moment has arrived where the 2017 NBA Draft becomes clearer.

Everyone, especially Knicks fans, should be happy Clyde will be in attendance Tuesday night. Teams receive a percentage of 1,000 four-number combinations in inverse order to their record in the 2016-17 season. The worst teams have the best chance of getting the No. 1 pick. Miami has only a 0.5% chance of getting the first overall pick. The Sixers could be back at the top of the lottery in 2019 and maybe also next year, but it very likely won't be due to their own record. Embiid went No. 3 in 2014, Jahlil Okafor was the No. 3 pick in 2015 and Ben Simmons became the No. 1 overall choice past year. The Kings are not opposed to re-signing Gay, but they could be outbid by a winning team that can offer Gay the chance to make the playoffs next season. Had they fallen out of the top three, they would have lost their pick to the 76ers.

In his first season as the Lakers president of basketball operations, Johnson will sit on the dais hoping to land a top-three pick in this year's draft. That takes a special kind of commitment to terribleness and it's a reminder that you should always use protection (when dealing draft picks). The former UCLA star and his outspoken father LaVar have made it no secret that they want to be drafted by the Lakers.

The Lakers originally dealt their 2018 first-round pick to Phoenix in 2012 in the trade for Steve Nash, and the 76ers acquired it from there.

Devin's thoughts on receiving the 4th overall pick....

That they're in danger of losing their top pick goes back to the Lakers' search for their next great point guard.

In history, Minnesota has only had the top overall pick one time and they used it to select Karl Anthony Towns in 2015.

Though the Nuggets missed out on their slim chance to move to the top of the draft, they will still have an opportunity to add considerable talent from what is considered a deep pool of prospects.

Should that happen, the Kings' pick would go to Chicago via Cleveland from the team's 2011 trade for J.J. Hickson.

Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Jackson are all top pick worthy players that have entered this year's draft and drafting any of the three would be remarkable for the Nuggets.
