Alexis Sanchez scores twice as Arsenal down Sunderland

Iwobi in recent times has been condemned to the bench, but coach Arsene Wenger gave the Nigerian a look-in on Tuesday as he was brought as a 69th minute replacement for Kieran Gibbs.

In the second-half, Arsenal upped the tempo, although Nacho Monreal nearly scored a weird own-goal, an incident which would lead to an equally odd indirect free-kick for Sunderland deep inside the Gunners' box.

Despite being labelled title contenders at certain stages this season, Wenger conceded that away defeats against Everton and Manchester City were turning points in Arsenal's campaign.

Arsene Wenger has called on Arsenal fans to turn out in force for Tuesday's game against Sunderland rather than take part in a boycott created to hasten his removal as manager of the London giants.

"Playing in the Champions League", he said when asked to choose between the two.

'But we can talk and talk and talk, at the end, let's make 75 points, if you look at the number of points we can make, it's quite one of the best in the last ten years'.

Relegated Sunderland held Arsenal for 72 minutes before two goals from Alexis Sanchez set up a final-day scrap with Liverpool for a Champions League place.

"I don't know how it happened, but game after game we didn't lose, and we won the championship with five games to go". Normally in an ideal world you want to rely on your own results. That one point can happen in a season on one side or the other.

"You have to put yourself in a position where you depend on your own results only".

"I don't understand how the managers speak for the other clubs and the other teams", City's manager said.

The manager, whose future has been the subject of speculation in the media and who is out of contract at the end of the season, did not clarify whether he would sign a new deal with Arsenal.

"We are all in the same boat and the captain is Arsenal, we need to fight for this club and don't think about what is happening with the boss or the players".

As for whether he would take the Europa League seriously, the Frenchman did not appear enthusiastic despite insisting that he would not field weakened teams.

"I don't think there are a lot of players like him and a player like this who can be the difference during the game, it's rare".
